IMG was founded by Dr. Ian Clarke, a physician, missionary, philanthropist and businessman, who was born and educated in Northern Ireland, but has resided in Uganda since 1988. The first company in the group, International Hospital Kampala was established in 1996. [2]

A school of tropical medicine and a school of medicine are planned in 2011 and 2014 respectively. These medical programs utilize IMG's own network of facilities, including a fully equipped hospital, countrywide clinics, a medical insurance company and rescue/evacuation by road and air ambulance. [5]
